The Story of Armenia's Craft Beer Pioneer
Before the spring of 2016, the Armenian beer scene was largely dominated by standard industrial lagers. That changed when two brothers, Aren and Hovhannes Durgarian, opened Dargett's doors with a simple but revolutionary mission: to bring true, unfiltered, and unpasteurized craft beer to local consumers. By blending world-class ingredients with state-of-the-art Italian brewing technology, Dargett shifted the paradigm of what beer in Yerevan could be. They were innovators from day one, proudly becoming the first Armenian brewery to produce an India Pale Ale (IPA) and the first to craft a fruit beer from local produce.
Why Dargett is a Must-Visit Experience in Yerevan
1. The Legendary Armenian Apricot Ale
Archaeological evidence suggests apricots have been grown in Armenia for at least 6,000 years, making the fruit a powerful national symbol. Dargett captures this heritage perfectly with their signature Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot Ale). By utilizing native Armenian apricots, they created an exclusive, locally-inspired brew that balances the fruit's natural sweetness with a crisp craft finish.
2. Unmatched Variety on Tap
Whether you are a casual drinker or a craft connoisseur, the taproom consistently features up to 21 different types of beer.
- Hop Lovers: Dive into their pioneering IPAs or Pale Ales.
- Dark Beer Fans: The rich, barrel-aged Armenian Imperial Stout packs a robust punch.
- Easy Drinkers: Classic Pilsners, Vienna Lagers, and crisp ciders made from local apples offer refreshing choices.
If you cannot decide, you can order a beer tasting flight to sample a wide array of their best brews.
3. A Menu Built for Pairing
Dargett is not just a bar; it is a full dining and gastronomic experience. Their robust food menu is meticulously designed to complement the beer. The snacks and shareable dishes served alongside the drinks are specifically meant to elevate the flavors of the craft beer, making it a perfect spot to spend an evening with friends.
